What was it all about?

Taste Australia was the whole-of-horticulture brand used by industry and Hort Innovation to help increase the profile, sales and consumption of premium Australian horticulture products in key export markets, particularly Asia and the Middle East. It was supported by the Hort Frontiers Asian Markets Fund.

Through Taste Australia, Hort Innovation undertook export market development activities including trade shows, trade missions and retail marketing activities. Taste Australia aimed to build a globally competitive, unified, agile and profitable Australian horticulture industry through sustainable investment in high value and high growth export markets.

Hort Innovation worked closely with key industry organisations including state governments, other research and development corporations and Austrade to help drive and support these projects.

Trade shows

Taste Australia exhibited at a number of international trade shows to further develop export opportunities in key Asian and Middle Eastern markets. These events enabled Taste Australia to put international buyers in contact with leading Australian growers, industry bodies and reliable exporters, and kept buyers up to date with information on what was in-season, how the season was shaping up and industry news.

Key events Taste Australia had a presence at included Asia Fruit Logistica in Hong Kong, the China Fruit & Vegetable Fair, Gulfood in Dubai and Foodex in Japan.

You can watch videos on previous participation at Asia Fruit Logistica – the region’s largest horticultural trade show – in these videos.

Retail program

Taste Australia further engaged retailers, importers and key trade stakeholders in-market, with seminar events and training sessions as part of the Taste Australia retail program. These activities were focused on training partners in the areas of presentation, storage and handling of Australian produce, to support Australia’s reputation for quality and safety throughout the supply chain.
