Extension strategy for the Australian vegetable industry (VG18003)

Key research provider: Coutts J&R
Publication date: Tuesday, November 26, 2019

What's it all about?

In 2019, this short project scoped out the extension needs of the Australian vegetable industry and delivered a strategy for addressing those needs into the future. An extensive regional consultation process was conducted to inform the strategy.

The recommendations from this strategy were used to inform the second iteration of the National Vegetable Extension Network (VegNET) initiative, which was contracted in early 2020.

In summary, this investment recommended that a regional approach to extension would continue to benefit the vegetable industry, through the engagement of Regional Development Officers responsible for developing and executing extension plans specific to their areas. The investment highlighted that each Regional Development Officer’s role would need to include working with industry in identifying each region’s key priority issues and key regional resources and links critical to ensuring growers receive assistance and information to help them lift productivity and operate more efficient and profitable businesses.
