Hort Innovation has today released its 2024/25 Annual Report, showcasing a year of strong investment, industry collaboration and impact across Australia’s $17 billion horticulture sector.
Driven by purpose and partnerships, the report shows how Hort Innovation is supporting growers through practical, on-farm outcomes that respond to real challenges and opportunities.
In the 2024/25 reporting period Hort Innovation invested $171.2 million across more than 400 projects supported by grower levies, Australian Government contributions, grants and co-investment. These investments have delivered tangible outcomes, from grower-led technology trials and food safety research to new export market access and varietal development.
Hort Innovation CEO Brett Fifield said the report reflects the organisation’s commitment to delivering value at the farm gate and supporting the sector’s long-term resilience.
“This year’s investments have helped growers tackle real challenges - from climate volatility and labour shortages to shifting consumer expectations and the need to drive demand - while unlocking new opportunities through innovation and collaboration,” Mr Fifield said.
“From grower-led tech trials and rapid on-farm biosecurity testing to new market access and varietal development, we’re delivering impact where it matters most. Whether it’s robotics, automation and smarter data to drive productivity, initiatives that boost domestic consumption, or efforts to expand export opportunities, our investments are backing the people, technologies and ideas that safeguard the industry’s reputation and readiness, while building a stronger future for Australian horticulture.”
The Annual Report also highlights major initiatives launched during the year, including the Hort Innovation Venture Fund to support ag-tech start-ups, the Australian-Grown Innovation mentoring program, and record investments in labour-saving farm technologies and weed control.
Horticulture remains Australia’s fastest-growing agriculture sector, now the third-largest by value. Hort Innovation’s work continues to support the sector’s competitiveness and sustainability through strategic investment and deep industry partnerships.
