Melon Priority Export Market Insights (VM25002)
Project start date: October 2025
Project completion date: June 2026
Australian melon growers face limited access to key international markets due to stringent phytosanitary and market entry requirements. Expanding exports requires comprehensive data, industry readiness, and credible business cases that meet International Market Access Assessment Panel (IMAAP) criteria.
This project is developing and submitting robust IMAAP applications to open new export pathways for Australian melons—specifically muskmelon and watermelon—to Vietnam and India. The initiative aligns with the melon industry’s strategic export goals and market access plans, aiming to unlock high-value protocol markets and drive long-term industry growth.
Key outputs include the preparation and submission of comprehensive IMAAP applications for both Vietnam and India, featuring detailed supply and demand forecasts, pest and disease profiles, phytosanitary compliance strategies, and market pricing analysis. The project will also produce evidence of industry export readiness, stakeholder engagement records, and letters of support.
This project aims to increase the value and competitiveness of Australian melons internationally by expanding global market access. It will also aim to support the long-term growth and resilience of the melon industry for growers and exporters.
