Ongoing project

Building biosecurity resilience in the Australian melon industry (VM24003)

Key research provider: Melons Australia

Project start date:13/04/2025

Project completion date:29/07/2028

This project aims to strengthen biosecurity preparedness and response across Australia’s melon industry by developing a tailored Biosecurity Strategy and Action Plan. Led by Melons Australia, the initiative will identify high-risk exotic pests and pathogens, assess current management practices, and deliver targeted training and resources to growers, agronomists, and field staff. The strategy will align with existing pest and crop management efforts and build on the industry’s experience with incursions such as CGMMV and Varroa mite.

The outcomes will support improved pest and disease management, guide future RD&E investment, and enhance the industry’s resilience against biosecurity threats, protecting growers and ensuring long-term sustainability.
