Generation of data – six-spotted mite and tea red spider mite control in avocados (ST25004)
This project is generating the data needed to support registration of Interrupt 240 SC Miticide for use in Australian avocado orchards to control two major pests: six-spotted mite in Western Australia and tea red spider mite in Queensland. These mites cause leaf damage, defoliation and yield loss, and are an ongoing management challenge for growers in key production regions.
The research team will conduct a series of field trials in commercial avocado orchards to test how well the miticide works, how safe it is for the crop, and whether residues meet regulatory requirements. All trials will follow approved protocols and generate reports suitable for submission to the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority.
If successful, the project will provide avocado growers with an additional registered tool to manage damaging mite populations. This is expected to strengthen integrated pest management programs, reduce production risk, and support the long-term productivity and sustainability of the Australian avocado industry.
This project is a strategic levy investment in the Hort Innovation Avocado Fund and is partially funded through an AgVet Funding Grant.
