Generation of data – bulb onions fusarium basal rot and nematode efficacy and residue data (ST25001)
Project start date: 15/12/2025
Project completion date: 10/04/2028
The onion industry currently lacks any registered chemical solutions for managing nematodes and Fusarium basal rot, two significant threats to crop yield and quality. This project aims to address this gap by generating robust efficacy, crop safety, and GLP residue data to support the registration of SYNPHI4, a new nematicide/fungicide, with the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA). The project will involve one to two seasons of field and residue trials, to build the data package required for regulatory submission.
The anticipated outcome is the future registration of SYNPHI4, which will provide onion growers with a much-needed tool to manage nematodes and Fusarium, ultimately improving yields, bulb quality, and industry profitability. The project also includes a clear pathway for adoption, with protocols, trial results, and regulatory submissions designed to ensure rapid uptake and benefit to the industry once registration is achieved.
This project is a strategic levy investment in the Hort Innovation Onion Fund.
