Delivering information and technology to the mango industry - stage 2 (MG10013)

Key research provider: The Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries
Publication date: Monday, July 13, 2015

What was it all about?

This project, which ran from 2011 to 2014, built upon previous work to improve the adoption and use of new information resources by mango growers and supply chain partners.

It involved developing new ways of taking information to the geographically dispersed mango industry. These included training manuals, workshops, events and online resources, with an emphasis on integrating road shows and other events with online resources.

Major outputs from the project included…

  • Delivery of 24 presentations, roadshows and training workshops for industry and supply chain partners, to over 500 participants throughout the major mango growing regions in Australia
  • Development of four information and training packages for growers and supply chain partners for improved technology uptake and staff training in the priority areas of picking, packing and post-harvest management, nutrition management and integrated pest management
  • Testing and identification of internet and multimedia technologies to improve mango industry access to the latest news, ideas, information and training resources from the mango extension network.

The project demonstrated that the most effective system for delivering mango information and training resources is by combining in-person delivery and online information.
