Review of the Biosecurity Plan for the Apple and Pear Industry (AP15003)

Key research provider: Plant Health Australia
Publication date: Tuesday, June 6, 2017

What was it all about?

The identification, prioritisation and management of key biosecurity risks – through review and implementation of a biosecurity plan – are critical industry biosecurity preparedness activities.

This project, carried out in 2015, updated the apple and pear industry’s biosecurity plan, providing a framework for risk mitigation and for managing the impact pest and disease incursions.

The plan is principally designed for decision makers. It provides the apple and pear industry and governments with a mechanism to identify exotic plant pests that could threaten production as well as to address strengths and weaknesses of the industry’s current biosecurity position. It is envisaged that a formal review of the Biosecurity Plan for the Apple and Pear Industry will be undertaken every five years.

After endorsement from industry and governments, the new Biosecurity Plan for the Apple and Pear Industry was released widely to industry.
