Resourcing and diagnostic support for the nursery industry (NY24006)

Key research provider: Queensland Department of Primary Industries
Publication date: Monday, December 22, 2025

Project start date: December 2025

Project completion dateDecember 2030

This project is helping Australian production nurseries identify and manage plant pests and diseases more effectively. It builds on the success of previous initiatives by continuing to offer free diagnostic services for crop plants, and for the first time, irrigation water. These services are proven to reduce crop losses, lower management costs, and improve plant health – ultimately boosting profitability and sustainability.

In addition to diagnostics, the project includes a strong extension component. It will deliver practical, hands-on workshops across Australia and update pest and disease factsheets and management plans tailored to local nursery conditions. These resources will support integrated pest and disease management strategies, incorporating cultural practices, biological controls, and approved chemical options. By strengthening industry knowledge and skills, the project empowers growers to adopt best practices and build more resilient, efficient nursery operations.
