Ensuring business continuity during biosecurity incursions – social and economic research learnings for the production nursery industry (NY18010)
Publication date: June 18, 2020
Delivery Partner: Nursery & Garden Industry Queensland (NGIQ)
This investment, which ran from 2020 to 2021, developed a framework for the nursery industry with recommended actions that could be quickly actioned during a biosecurity incursion, with the aim of minimising social and/or economic damage and ensuring business continuity.
The framework was designed as a practical decision tool to help nursery growers identify which strategies and interventions would be appropriate under various circumstances. The decision guide enables a nursery owner to ask specific questions of their processes and assess their capacity to manage disruption.
The decision guide applies lessons learned from the project’s literature review, qualitative and quantitative research conducted by Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO; and acknowledges the importance of the established industry’s biosecurity program, BioSecure HACCP.
