    What was it all about?

    This project supported the role and activities of a policy and technical officer for the Australian nursery industry, between 2013 and 2016. This dedicated role was designed to support the industry in responding to opportunities and challenges impacting on its sustainable development.

    Over the life of the project, the policy and technical officer was responsible for…

    • Participation in developing industry policies and submissions on relevant and emerging environmental and technical issues. The officer was involved in delivering four policies on water, environmental sustainability, industry communication and plant labelling.

    • Development of technical communications and resources on industry policy as well as research, development, market development and extension programs.

    • Development of collaborative links with stakeholders on relevant and emerging environmental and technical issues.

    • Provision of research and technical support to Nursery & Garden Industry Australia’s National Research and Market Development Manager/CEO on current and emerging nursery industry issues.

    The officer also sat on industry and government committees as well as attending various forums, workshops and conferences, and contributing to industry communication channels.

    This project is equipping and encouraging emerging and aspiring leaders with the right knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed decisions about their business, help shape industry strategy and enter nursery industry leadership roles, through the development of a leadership program.
