Key research provider: Consulting & Implementation Services (CIS)

Project start date: 3/06/2025

Project completion date: 6/04/2026

Summary:

This project aims to develop a 5–10-year strategic plan to guide the Australian mushroom industry’s investments in health and nutrition research, development, and extension (R,D&E). By identifying research priorities, aligning them with industry needs, and supporting education and engagement initiatives, the project will enhance understanding of mushrooms’ nutritional benefits and influence consumer behaviour. Through stakeholder consultation and a comprehensive review of existing research, the strategy will provide a clear roadmap for future investment and innovation.

The project will deliver a suite of outputs including a strategic plan, literature review, stakeholder engagement framework, and communication materials to ensure broad dissemination. Outcomes will include stronger collaboration across the supply chain, improved consumer confidence in mushroom health benefits, and evidence-based decision-making for industry leaders. These efforts will ultimately support a more informed, connected, and resilient mushroom industry.
