Key research provider: KPMG
Publication date: Tuesday, March 18, 2025

What was it all about?

This project empowered the Australian onion and vegetable industries with a stronger understanding of its global position with clear strategies to enhance export competitiveness.

The research delivered clear insights into Australia’s position against key global competitors and identified practical ways to lift export performance. The work brought together market intelligence, benchmarking and targeted guidance to help industry focus effort where it will make the biggest difference to trade outcomes.

The project compared Australia’s export performance with leading competitor countries, focusing on logistics costs, supply chain efficiency and government support. It assessed six priority export markets and identified where Australia has strengths and where improvements are needed.

The work produced a final report with strategic recommendations, along with a set of export marketspecific factsheets (available below). These outputs captured global best practice and provided practical guidance on how to service priority markets more effectively.

The findings will support more informed decisions by industry and government on market access, logistics and trade priorities. Over time, uptake of the recommendations is expected to improve export efficiency, strengthen market access and support growth in the value and volume of Australian onion and vegetable exports.
