Mid-term review: Independent evaluation of project MC21000 (MC24005)

Key research provider: Impact Innovation

What's it all about?

This project is evaluating the progress, relevance, and future direction of MC21000 to ensure it continues delivering value to the macadamia industry. The review will provide evidence-based recommendations that guide the project’s continuation, modification, or conclusion in alignment with strategic industry goals.

Challenges

As the macadamia industry evolves, ensuring that long-term projects like MC21000 remain aligned with industry needs is critical. Challenges include assessing progress against goals and the effectiveness of stakeholder communication.  Without clear alignment and evaluation, there is a risk that ongoing efforts may not provide optimal outcomes or strategic value, potentially impacting the industry’s ability to manage pests sustainably and competitively.

Response

The mid-term review is structured into four phases and ten sprints, involving desktop reviews, stakeholder consultations, and targeted workshops. It examines project progress, relevance, resource use, and impact, while also offering contingency planning if a no-go decision is necessary. Key deliverables, including a Stop-Go report, stakeholder engagement plan, and risk register, work to ensure the process is thorough, transparent, and practical, setting a clear path forward whether the project continues in its current form or is restructured.

Benefit

The review will ensure that MC21000 delivers maximum value by aligning its goals with industry needs, providing stakeholders with actionable, evidence-based insights to guide decision-making, helping safeguard investments and improve project outcomes.
