Cherry Biosecurity Plan Review (CY24007)
Project start date: 1/09/2025
Project completion date: 10/08/2030
This project focuses on strengthening biosecurity preparedness across the Australian cherry industry through the development of a new Biosecurity Plan (version 4.0). Led by Plant Health Australia (PHA) in collaboration with Cherry Growers Australia (CGA) and government representatives, the plan will identify, prioritise, and provide advice to manage key biosecurity risks that threaten cherry production.
The project will review the current Biosecurity Plan (version 3.0), published in 2018, to ensure it reflects the latest exotic pest threats and industry needs.
The updated plan will serve as a strategic framework to guide biosecurity activities at both the industry and orchard level, helping growers stay ahead of emerging challenges. It will provide a clear framework for biosecurity preparedness, helping growers implement practical on-farm measures to reduce risk and improve response capability.
Through the development of a new Action Plan, growers will also gain access to targeted activities in research, diagnostics, and communications, ensuring they are better equipped to protect their crops and maintain Australia’s reputation for high-quality cherry production. Regular reviews will keep the plan relevant and responsive to emerging biosecurity challenges.
This project is a strategic levy investment in the Hort Innovation Cherry Fund
