Avocado market readiness and engagement program (AV25007)
Project start date: 22/08/2025
Project completion date: 8/10/2027
Summary:
This project supports the Australian avocado industry’s strategic engagement with China to build market access credentials and commercial readiness. China is now Asia’s largest importer of fresh avocados, with over 65,000 tonnes imported in 2023–24 and a forecast of up to 100,000 tonnes by 2030. The project will showcase the premium quality and reliability of Australian avocados, foster technical collaboration, and strengthen confidence in biosecurity and import protocols through bilateral education and protocol development.
Key activities include a two-year education program in Yunnan and Sichuan, participation in major trade expos, annual roundtables, and inbound trade missions for Chinese importers. For growers, this investment lays the groundwork for future export opportunities by building in-market credibility, demonstrating supply chain capability, and positioning Australian avocados for success in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets.
This project is a strategic levy investment in the Hort Innovation Avocado Fund
