Carbohydrate management in avocado production systems (AV24008)
Project start date: 26/06/2025
Project completion date: 11/09/2027
To support more efficient and consistent avocado production, this project aims to develop a commercial-scale tool for assessing tree carbohydrate status using aerial near-infrared hyperspectral sensors and AI analytics. Building on the foundational work of AV19006, which demonstrated the potential of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) in the lab, the new tool will be validated across Australia’s major avocado growing regions. The insights gained will help growers and consultants optimise orchard management practices to improve yield consistency and profitability.
The outcomes will support the avocado industry’s strategic goals by providing innovative, data-driven solutions to enhance productivity and respond to market demands.
This project is a strategic levy investment in the Hort Innovation Avocado Fund.
