What was it all about?

InfoPome is the apple and pear industry’s stock tracking system. Cool store data is voluntarily provided by growers and cool store operators and collated into a national report of the volume of apples and pears in cool store each week. The reporting is separated by variety and by state, allowing growers to make better informed sales and marketing decisions.

Whilst InfoPome has been in existence in one form or another for over a decade, this project funded three years of system maintenance and development from 2016 to 2018.

During this time, data collection was streamlined with a simplified form and iOS and Android phone apps, it moved from monthly to weekly reporting providing finer detail for users, it introduced allowances for correcting for missing data, and it provided value adding independent analysis of the data and associated commentary. Analysis included the average rate of stock drawdowns per month and the projected stock cover until the next season as well as comparisons with levels at the same time in previous seasons. It also allows any anomalies that might be present in the data.

Cool store operators whose contributions had lapsed were contacted to encourage participation for the 2018 season, which successfully increased participation levels, and therefore confidence in the data accuracy and usefulness.
