Building research and trade ties with India

Publication date: 10 October 2022

Together with Indian Government officials, we are building a landmark Australia-India Centre for Excellence (AI-CoE) in Delhi.

India is a major global economy and an increasingly important economic partner in agriculture.

This initiative is being delivered in partnership with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). In 2016, Hort Innovation entered into a formal relationship with ICAR, which is one of the largest agriculture systems in the world and operates through 111 Agriculture Institutes and 71 Agricultural Universities across India.

Through the Australia-India Horticulture Centre of Excellence we will develop a framework to undertake state-of-the-art research and development, education and trade initiatives. The aim is for partners to share their knowledge and work together create solutions to mutual horticulture industry issues such as crop production challenges.

The AI-CoE is part of a three-year project that will:

  • Revitalise existing R&D partnerships between Hort Innovation and several Indian organisations, including ICAR
  • Identify new opportunities across commercial, academic and research institutions
  • Strengthen the commitment between Australia and India to leverage trade and investment opportunities
