What is it all about?
This seven-year project aims to increase daily nut consumption by strengthening the evidence about nuts and making reliable information more accessible to health professionals, policymakers, industry and consumers. Australians currently eat fewer nuts than recommended, despite evidence supporting their role in healthy and sustainable diets.
Building on the existing Nuts for Life program, the work will continue to generate, translate and share science-based evidence about nuts and health while expanding its reach through educational, health and market channels. It will engage people who do not currently consume nuts and support greater inclusion of nuts in healthy and sustainable diets.
Intended outcomes include contributing to the national goal of 10 million Australians consuming nuts daily by 2030, growth in educational program participation and practice change, increased clinician recommendations, successful delivery and scaling of produce-prescription trials, and sustained reach through conferences, podcasts and media. The initiative also aims to strengthen the resilience and competitiveness of the Australian nut industry.
