What was it all about?
This project delivered Almond360, an industry-specific online platform that helps Australian almond growers assess and improve their on-farm sustainability and business practices. Twelve best management practice modules were developed and reviewed, with a final module still under development. The modules cover areas including irrigation, biosecurity, soil, pollination, workplace health and safety, energy and emissions.
Through a series of self-assessments, growers can identify risks and opportunities within their businesses. The platform generates reports with scores, recommended actions and supporting resources, and allows growers to compare their results with industry data and track progress over time. A Best Management Practice Quick Guide and video were also produced to explain the platform and encourage its use.
The work responded to growing sustainability expectations from markets, supply chains and the broader community, alongside pressures such as higher input costs, extreme weather and disruptions affecting labour, supplies and pollination services. Grower feedback showed that tailored, one-on-one or organisation-based support was more effective than group learning activities in helping growers use the platform.
Almond360 gives growers access to practical, industry-specific information to support informed decisions and improvements on farm. Data captured through the platform can also help identify where further industry resources, training and research are needed.
