What was it all about?

This investment gave Australian almond industry stakeholders the opportunity to visit major producing regions in Spain, Portugal and California to observe production systems, technologies, research and industry practices firsthand.  

Two study tours helped participants build knowledge, assess which overseas innovations could be relevant to Australian growing conditions, and strengthen links with international growers, researchers and industry organisations.

Participants gained practical insights into overseas almond production, processing and water management, including different approaches to high-density plantings, variety and rootstock development, sustainability, disease management and emerging technologies. As the Australian almond industry enters a major orchard redevelopment phase, these insights can help inform future production decisions.

Learnings were shared with the broader industry through articles, presentations, videos and industry forums to support future research, investment and industry decision-making.
