This project helped citrus growers and industry stakeholders access levy-funded research, industry updates and practical information through a range of communication channels. Delivered by Citrus Australia from 2021 to 2026, the program increased awareness of research and development activities, emerging industry challenges and opportunities, and the role of Hort Innovation in funding citrus research.
As the Australian citrus industry expanded, growers faced increasing challenges including biosecurity threats, changing market access requirements, labour shortages, climate pressures and changing agrichemical availability. To help growers access timely information about these issues and the latest levy-funded research, the program delivered content through Australian Citrus News, the monthly Citrus eNews, The Full Bottle podcast, videos, social media and the Citrus Australia website. Content included research updates, grower case studies, biosecurity information, market access developments and industry event coverage.
The program also supported communications for regional forums and the Australian Citrus Congress, helping connect growers with researchers and extend key research findings across the industry. Over the life of the project, Citrus Australia produced 19 editions of Australian Citrus News, 35 podcast episodes, more than 25 videos and a monthly eNews.
Strong engagement across these channels demonstrated the program’s reach. In the 2024 grower survey, 80 per cent of respondents said they had been made aware of research and development updates through Citrus Australia’s communications, while all respondents had received or engaged with content from Australian Citrus News.
By providing growers and industry stakeholders with access to levy-funded research, industry updates and practical information, the program contributed to a better-informed citrus industry and supported the extension of research outcomes across the citrus supply chain.
This project was a strategic levy investment in the Hort Innovation Citrus Fund
