    What was it all about?

Australian lychees were given the green light to enter mainland United States (except Florida) in 2013, so this project involved several streams of work to facilitate lychee export.

It was a three-year pilot program which ran from 2015 to 2018, in order to…

    • Develop grower guides on pests and diseases of quarantine concern, as well as chemicals and maximum residue limits
    • Develop pest monitoring guides
    • Source and submit packaging approval with relevant authorities
    • Establish grower registration and auditing for growers wishing to export to the US.

In working to streamline the export of lychees to the US, the investment saw two successful shipments of lychees in both year two and three of the program, with some 800 cartons of lychees (three times the volume exported the previous season) readied for auditing and inspection by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources in the final year of the pilot.

    ACT NOW

Grower guides relating to export remain available through the ALGA, including information on pest and diseases of quarantine concern, as well as chemicals and maximum residue limits. The ALGA also has resources for pest monitors produced out of this investment.
