    What was it all about? 

    This project ran from 2017 to 2019 to support the almond industry’s statistics collection and dissemination processes.

    Key achievements included:

    • Maintained a confidential industry database, held by the Almond Board of Australia, with details of plantings, sales and more. This database was used during the period to help guide industry discussions and decisions.
    • Delivered the 2018/2019 annual Almond Insights publication, to provide an up to date assessment of the industry, incorporating results of the project’s annual planting survey.
    • Produced annual crop forecasts, to provide viewers with an update on the condition of the environment, pests, harvest, crop levels and quality of the crops.
    • Delivered monthly export position reports, to give an overview of export rates.
    • Undertook market analysis reports to optimise returns for growers.
    • Delivered annual food safety tests, which assure quality of the produce.

    Some examples of improvements which have been made through this project are:

    • Assessing future water, bee, nutrient and processing capacity requirements based on plantings data.
    • Collecting annual yield data from major producers to revise industry average yield tonnages for crop predictions.
