Australian blueberries granted export access to Vietnam

The Australian blueberry industry has today achieved a significant milestone with the signing of a new export agreement with Vietnam, commencing in December 2025.
This landmark agreement, signed by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) and the Plant Production and Protection Department of Vietnam, marks a pivotal step forward for Australian blueberry growers seeking to expand their international export footprint.
This agreement with Vietnam is underpinned by Hort Innovation investments via industry levies and contributions from the Australian Government into research. Ongoing trade and market development initiatives that support the export protocols will make it possible to send our fruit into this key new market.
Hort Innovation CEO, Brett Fifield, explained what the news will mean for the industry: “The signing of this protocol is an important step forward, enhancing the industry’s competitiveness both internationally and domestically. This new market access presents an opportunity to tap into Vietnam's increasing demand for premium, high-quality imported fresh fruit, for which Australia is so well known.”
“In FY2023/24, Australia exported 1,085 tonnes of blueberries to other countries. This opportunity with Vietnam means we will see that number continue to grow and offers reason to be excited to the sector,” concluded Fifield.
Berries Australia added: “Vietnam market access presents a fantastic opportunity for the blueberry industry, as it has a growing middle class who actively seek out high-quality imported fresh fruit. Vietnamese consumers have a well-established preference for branded, premium fruit with exceptional freshness and flavour aligning perfectly with Australia’s reputation for superior blueberry production.”

Fresh and Secure Trade Alliance (FASTA) (AM22000): A national program designed to support and expand Australia’s horticultural market access using evidence-based strategies.
Multi-industry berry trade development and market access project (2024-2029) (MT23004): An investment to proactively unlock trade opportunities and strengthen market access for Australia’s berry industries. The project aims to enable a growing volume of berry products to reach premium international markets over time—ensuring sustainable pricing and long-term competitiveness.
