What was it all about?

The EnviroVeg Program is the vegetable industry’s environmental best management practice (BMP) program and has existed in evolving forms since 2000. It involves a range of resources and services so that Australian vegetable growers can benchmark and improve their BMPs and showcase their environmental credentials through certification.

This latest iteration of the program aligned components from EnviroVeg, Hort360 and Freshcare Environmental to deliver a clear pathway to environmental assurance for Australian vegetable growers, as it continues to support and improve environmental management on-farm and develop environmental recognition for industry participants.

Specifically, a revised EnviroVeg pathway was launched to ensure the program was integrated with the Freshcare Environmental 3 (ENV3) standard that enables a certification option for EnviroVeg participants. A self-assessment phase, using the Growcom Hort360 platform was also incorporated.

The EnviroVeg self-assessment phase is hosted within the Growcom Hort-360 platform, which has provided the opportunity for vegetable producers to benchmark environmental performance.

As a result of this successful integration, the EnviroVeg program now has the capability to capture valuable data that enables industry benchmarking and can support the direction of future R&D investment.
