What is it all about?

The Future Orchards program supports Australian apple and pear growers to improve orchard productivity, fruit quality and business performance through better adoption of proven practices and new technologies.

The project delivers practical, hands-on extension through trained frontline advisors, grower-to-grower learning and targeted education activities. It applies learning theory to improve how information is shared and how new practices are adopted on farm. Advisors work directly with growers to improve the execution of orchard tasks, encourage innovation and build confidence in using new tools and technologies.

Key activities include advisor training, orchard-based demonstrations, peer learning opportunities and improved communication platforms that connect growers and advisors. The project also supports stronger information sharing between growers so they can learn from each other’s experiences.

The expected outcome is increased adoption of efficient orchard practices, improved fruit quality and productivity, and stronger grower capability across the apple and pear industries. By supporting consistent extension delivery and practical learning, the program aims to lift industry performance and long-term competitiveness.
