Buy it, bring it, gym it: Australian Bananas brings back Banana Gym Pass giving Australians a free workout

Publication date: October 7, 2025

Tomorrow, for National Banana Day, Australians can use a banana for a free workout as Australian Bananas brings back its hugely popular Banana Gym Pass.

The initiative, which launched in 2024, proved such a hit that it has returned bigger and better this year – with more than twice as many gyms on board nationwide.

From boutique studios to large gym chains including Virgin Active, Fitness First and Anytime Fitness – Australians can unlock a free workout by purchasing a banana from any local supermarket or grocer and presenting it at more than 900 participating gyms across the country. Packed with vitamin B6 and potassium to aid recovery, Australian Bananas are the perfect naturally convenient snack to fuel every workout.

Australian Bananas have also teamed up with fitness coach and television personality, Tim Robards, to highlight the importance of staying active and fuelling your body the right way.

Tim Robards, Australian Bananas ambassador, said: “Health and fitness have always been a huge part of my life - from my early days as a chiropractor, through to my work in fitness, TV and wellness, to now balancing training with being a dad. Bananas have always been one of my go-to snacks. They’re natural, easy to grab, and full of the energy you need for a great workout, to chase after the kids, or just keep on top of a busy day. National Banana Day is a great reminder that looking after your body and keeping it fuelled doesn’t have to be complicated.”

Australian Bananas grower, Miki Buchanan, welcomes the initiative to encourage Australians to fuel up with bananas and get active: "As a banana grower, it’s fantastic to see Aussies turning our fruit into both their ticket to the gym and their go-to workout snack this National Banana Day. The Banana Gym Pass is all about helping people stay active and fuelled, and we’re proud that bananas – packed with the nutrients your body needs – can power workouts right across the country."
