Biosecurity R&D aims to enhance farm profitability by developing innovative pest and disease management solutions, strengthening biosecurity preparedness, and establishing systems to protect domestic and international market access.​

Crop protection and minor use permits

Hort Innovation supports growers’ access to safe and effective crop protection solutions through levy-funded projects, grant-funded trials and related work. This includes support for minor use permits.

Fresh and Secure Trade Alliance (FASTA)

FASTA is an 8-year, $130 million collaborative research program dedicated to safeguarding and growing Australia’s horticultural exports. FASTA's national network of experts focuses on solving challenges in regulatory market access and in-field pest management, with a strong emphasis on combatting fruit flies and other pests that hinder trade opportunities.

Plant Biosecurity Research Initiative (PBRI)

PBRI is a collaboration between Australia’s plant Rural Research and Development Corporations and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. It helps coordinate investment in plant biosecurity innovation through targeted collaborative planning.
