The horticulture levy system
The levy system
We work with each horticulture industry to invest levies in ways that reflect its needs and priorities. Statutory levies are collected by the Australian Government and transferred to Hort Innovation under a statutory funding agreement. Hort Innovation then invests those funds in research and development and, where relevant, marketing, guided by industry priorities and advice.
For eligible research and development activity, the Australian Government also makes a matching contribution. Marketing levies do not attract this contribution. The benefits of each levy investment are intended to flow back to the industry from which the levy was collected.
Some industries also invest through voluntary collective industry funds. These funds follow the same broad investment process, with Hort Innovation managing investment on behalf of industry.
