What was it all about?

This project strengthened the Australian melon industry’s ability to pursue new export markets by developing and submitting formal market access applications.

The work delivered robust, industry‑backed International Market Access Assessment Panel (IMAAP) applications to demonstrate that Australian melon growers are ready to supply these high‑value markets.

The project team gathered and consolidated the data needed to support future market access. This included trade and production information, supply and demand analysis, pest and disease considerations, and evidence showing how phytosanitary requirements could be met. Confidential IMAAP applications and supporting business cases were developed and submitted for assessment.

If approved, these applications are expected to support greater market diversification, reduce exposure to market disruptions, and improve supply chain resilience. The project also provided valuable experience and insights that will inform future efforts to open additional markets when further data becomes available.
