Completed project
Building best management practice capacity for the Australian mango industry (MG17000)
Publication date: April 5, 2022
Delivery Partner: The Australian Mango Industry Association
Spanning from 2018 to 2022, this project delivered new best practice resources accessible through the revamped Australian Mangoes website, a wide range of extension activities such as roadshows, workshops and field days as well as weekly crop flow reports during the season. The two regionally based Industry Development Officers (IDOs) conducted on-farm dry matter testing and calibrated the industry’s NIR instruments at the onset of each season.
These activities helped the mango industry access, understand and implement practices to maintain and improve orchard productivity, fruit quality and the industry’s overall profitability and long-term sustainability. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and border restrictions, this project reached growers from all corners of Australia representing around 90 per cent of the industry and built a more cohesive industry.
The project built on the work of previous investments Capacity building, information, technology and extension for the mango industry (MG13017) and On-farm quality testing utilising near infrared (NIR) technology (MG17002).
This project was a strategic levy investment in the Hort Innovation Mango Fund
