Ongoing project
Macadamia crop forecasting 2026-28 (MC24009)
Delivery Partner: QLD Department of Primary Industries (QDPI)
As the Australian macadamia industry continues to expand, reliable crop forecasts are essential for maintaining market confidence, price stability, and effective scheduling of processing and infrastructure planning. This project will deliver, each year, a climate-adjusted macadamia crop forecast for the coming season, as well as longer-term forecasts (out to 10 years) for expected production amounts. These forecasts will inform processors and producers, supporting decision-making for future export expansion and industry growth.
Growers and industry stakeholders will benefit directly from improved forecasting accuracy, enabling better planning for processing, exports, and future expansion. The project’s outputs - annual crop forecasts and a recoded forecasting model - will be adopted by the Australian Macadamia Society and disseminated to the industry, supporting logistics and long-term strategic decisions. By incorporating up-to-date data, advanced statistical methods, and industry collaboration, the project aims to deliver practical, actionable insights that help growers respond to changing conditions and opportunities in the market.
