Macadamia crop forecasting 2015-18 (MC15009)

Key research provider: The Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries
Publication date: Friday, May 10, 2019

What was it all about?

This investment was responsible for producing macadamia crop forecasts each year from 2015 to 2018, designed to be accurate to within 10 per cent of the actual final crop. This forecasting was made available through the Australian Macadamia Society website, providing a tool for improved decision-making for macadamia businesses and the wider industry, and maintaining an informed, viable and sustainable industry.

To produce the forecasts, the project team predicted effects of the past year’s climate and other influences, which were incorporated with expected yields based on an industry census.

The researchers also produced and revised long-term forecasts, 10 to 15 years out, to allow the industry to plan for adequate infrastructure and also marketing well in advance.

This investment is followed by Macadamia crop forecasting 2020-2022 (MC18003).
