National Vegetable Extension Network (VegNET)

Key research provider: Multiple region-based providers
Publication date: Wednesday, December 5, 2018

What was it all about?

The VegNET program kept Australian vegetable growers informed about current R&D activities, results and resources from 2016 to early 2020. It supported the adoption of industry best practice and bolstered vegetable production in key growing areas across in the country.

VegNET involved multiple Regional capacity building to grow vegetable businesses projects that funded the positions of industry development officers (IDOs) in key vegetable-growing regions, as well as a national coordination project that ensured a collaborative approach across the country. The IDOs were responsible for the delivery of specialised events and distribution of R&D material in those areas, as well as gathering information on future R&D project requirements from growers.

While the Regional capacity building projects came to an end in mid-2019, interim extension projects for each state and territory were established to continue VegNET activities until a new and improved iteration of the program began in early 2020.

You can learn more about each region’s program below by downloading the final report of their original and/or extension component, or watching the videos below.

Check out these videos, created to introduce the VegNET program, which give an idea about what each project did to engage with vegetable producers.
