What was it all about?

This project supported the attendance of two Australian representatives at the 15th International Prune Association (IPA) World Prune Conference in Sirmione, Italy in May 2015. The conference hosted representatives from prune-producing countries including Australia, Chile, Argentina, France, Italy, Serbia, South Africa and the USA.

The conference is held every 18 months to discuss and exchange information on:

  • The global prune industry supply and demand situation and outlook
  • Best-practice production techniques and emerging technologies
  • Recent research projects in all producing countries
  • Promotion initiatives aimed at increasing consumption of prunes.

The Australian representatives presented a Country Report sharing information on production and sales statistics, quality assurance, promotions and the outlook for the local prune industry.

The findings from the IPA Conference were outlined in summary articles published in The Vine. In addition, a report was prepared, presented and discussed at the Annual Growers’ Conference held in September 2015, in Griffith, New South Wales
