Horticulture in Australia is a $7 billion industry.
It is extremely diverse and comprises fruit, vegetables, nuts, nursery, extractive crops, cut flowers and turf.
Total horticultural exports in 2006/07 were $763 million.
Whilst total horticulture exports (fresh fruit, vegetable, nuts and plants including flowers) was $751m (12 months to May 2008).
It is the fastest growing industry in agriculture with 17,273 enterprises.
Horticulture employs over 100,000 people, this translates to about 20 per cent of total employment in agriculture being within horticulture.
