Horticulture in Australia is a $6.5 billion industry making a significant contribution to the national economy. It is extremely diverse and comprises fruit, vegetables, nuts, nursery, extractive crops, cut flowers and turf (consisting of more than 40 individual industries or commodities).
Exports have increased by 30% over the past decade to $827 million (2005/06). It is one of the fastest growing industries in agriculture with over 25,000 horticultural enterprises.
