OVERVIEW
Water is fundamental to the horticulture industries future and at the moment water scarcity is major challenge. Horticulture Australia Limited (HAL) has initiated a program to address the issues associated with responsible water use. The across industry funded Horticulture Water Initiative (HWI) has been set up by HAL to provide a coordinated approach and focal point for the horticulture sector's water issues.

** New Decision support tools for Horticulture in Murray Darling Basin.
In partnership with industry and supported by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, HAL has developed Drought Information Delivery for Horticulture in the Murray Darling Basin as part of the Australian Government’s Irrigation Industries Workshop Programme.
This website contains information on the drought and on how the industry can respond to this environmental issue.
The website includes:
- Decision Making Tools and Grower Resources – includes tools to ‘Manage Today’ and ‘Plan for Tomorrow’ – part of the Drought Information Delivery for Horticulture in the Murray Darling Basin program, along with information and resources on water budgeting and trading, salinity management and crop specific information.
- Assistance, Contacts and Links – financial assistance available, useful resources and details for Federal and State contacts
- Drought Case studies – produced as part of the HWI, the four case studies describe examples of horticulture growers decision-making processes and management strategies during drought conditions.
- Drought Forums – presentations, papers and meeting minutes from recent drought related forums.
