The Plant Health Portfolio aims to lead & foster the development of technologies & tools for IPM that reduces risk from pests & adds economic, social & environmental value for Australian Horticulture.
The Plant Health Portfolio encompasses the research, development & implementation (includes the use of tools developed through the Industry Development portfolio) activities for all pest management strategies which can be applied to horticultural crops prior to planting & up to harvesting the produce (i.e. pre-plant to harvest). This includes the management of any impacts on horticulture produce created as a result of the pest management practices.
From November 2009 the Plant Health Portfolio will be expanded to incorporate plant physiology, plant nutrition, tree management and non pest and disease related chemical application. These investment areas were previously included in the crop production portfolio.
Plant Health will then be divided between the following portfolios areas: • Insect management, General IPM, Canopy management and all chemicals applications • Disease management, Weeds, Nematodes, Plant physiology and Plant nutrition
