Overview

Fruit and vegetable promotion is an Australian health priority due to:

  • inadequate consumption levels;
  • evidence of considerable health benefits and related health system savings;
  • consumer amenability towards fruit and vegetables;
  • limited expenditure on fruit and vegetable advertising and promotion compared to less nutritious competing foods; and
  • identified misconceptions and barriers.

The national Go for 2&5® Campaign aims to address this issue through a collaborative effort between government at all levels and the private sector. The State of Western Australia, through its Department of Health had licensed the Australian Government, and State and Territory governments (with the exception of Victoria), and the private sector through Horticulture Australia Limited who sublicense industry and other non-government organisations.

Information on the collaborative activities currently being undertaken can be found on the Go for 2&5® campaign website.

The national Go for 2&5® campaign is an Australian Government, State and Territitory health initiative. Supported by industry, and other organisations with an interest in promoting good health.
